Currencies and approximate conversion

Currencies and approximate conversion in Beyond.

In Beyond, the original currency remains part of an amount. Time, charges, milestones and invoices are not automatically converted into one currency. Viewing and using native currencies does not require the paid base-currency feature.

Enable reference conversion

Workspace base currency is available on Starter or higher. Open Settings → Business → Details, select a base currency and save. Additional lines marked ≈ show approximate equivalents, while original currency totals remain visible and authoritative.

When the setting is Off, display conversion does not request rates. A new client without an explicitly chosen currency uses the currently available base currency, or EUR when it is Off. Check client currency and terms before recording work; see clients and rates.

Which rate date applies

  • Balances and current aggregates use today’s rate.
  • A report uses its period end, capped at today.
  • A draft invoice uses current rates.
  • Issue captures available invoice FX rates for its issue date.

An issued invoice PDF uses its saved snapshot. The invoice page and rows use it while it matches the current base currency; older invoices without snapshots convert at their issue date. An unavailable rate does not prevent issue, but an approximate value may be missing. Standard report PDFs do not print converted amounts.

Scope and retention

Do not add different native currencies as an exact overall total. Record payments in the invoice currency rather than a reference equivalent. Downgrade does not delete native amounts or invoice snapshots; new available displays follow the current plan.

Internal profitability has a separate rule: historical labor cost converts to the project currency even when display base currency is Off. That calculation does not alter the client invoice or persist a converted amount in place of its source.
