Rates and time value

A bill rate prices hourly work.

A bill rate prices hourly work. It differs from a member’s internal labor cost and a project’s fixed price. Check the billing type before explaining an amount as hours multiplied by a rate.

Choose pricing terms

Set a client rate when its projects generally use the same terms. In a project, retain inheritance or provide an explicit project rate. When recording work, review the resolved pricing; an available override applies to the individual entry.

Saved entries retain historical pricing data. Changing the current rate does not automatically recalculate all historical work. Read the offered rate-change workflow carefully and check which period or records it affects. Invoices store document snapshots, so correcting a source rate does not rewrite an already issued document.

Change a rate and choose its scope

After changing a client or project rate, the wizard offers three choices:

  • Future entries only keeps existing entries at their stored rates.
  • All unbilled entries rewrites the rate on eligible entries not locked by an issued invoice.
  • Custom period lets you select start and end dates for eligible entries in that range.

Before confirming, review the affected-entry count and the separate count of invoice-locked entries. Locked entries remain untouched for every choice. Updating history changes unbilled valuation; it does not rewrite existing issued documents.

Zero and missing rates

Zero means deliberately nonbillable hourly work. A missing rate means the value is unknown. Smart checks therefore look for missing rates rather than intentional zeroes. If an expected amount is absent, check the project, date, inheritance and individual entry, rather than only the client’s current rate.

Fixed-price project entries remain working hours and do not generate hourly revenue. See Invoices for milestones and billing. Internal labor rates support cost and margin and may differ from the price charged to a client.

Ordinary client, project and entry rates have no standalone paid feature flag. Monetary fields follow permissions; seeing money does not grant team invoice management. Base-currency conversion has separate plan eligibility; see Currencies.
