Profitability and budgets
Profitability and budgets in Beyond.
Profitability compares recognized revenue with historical labor cost. It is available to Owners and Admins, with no separate paid profitability feature switch. A Member’s permission to see their own time amounts does not expose internal team costs.
Get comparable figures
- Open profitability in Reports or a project’s financial information.
- Set the period, clients and projects.
- Remove author and tag filters: profitability does not support them.
- Review revenue, cost, profit, margin and effective rate by currency.
- If a figure is unavailable, inspect durations with missing rates or FX.
Hourly revenue belongs to the entry date. Fixed revenue belongs to the issue date of an invoice containing the milestone. Draft, void and merely scheduled milestones produce no recognized revenue. Charges are excluded from project profitability.
Historical labor rates
Cost uses the entry date: the latest applicable project override for the author takes precedence over their workspace default. A future rate does not rewrite the past. Zero is a known rate and means zero cost; no applicable rate means incomplete data, not free labor. Retained history of former members continues to contribute.
If a rate uses another currency, internal calculation uses historical FX independently of the interface’s optional base currency. Missing rates leave known cost and affected duration visible, while exact profit and margin may be unavailable.
Lifetime fixed budgets
Remaining budget and forecast remaining hours use the project’s entire history, not the current report period. Remaining equals contracted price minus accumulated labor cost; a negative amount signals overrun. A forecast requires complete cost and positive observed burn. Contracted price is not substituted for recognized revenue.
Do not confuse a monetary budget with a soft monthly hours limit. That limit highlights usage and never blocks logging or invoice issue.
