Internal cost rates
An internal cost rate values labor by the author of a time entry. It is not the client's bill rate and does not change issued invoices. Use it to calculate project labor cost and margin.

Enable and enter rates
Enable internal cost tracking in the workspace’s Business settings. Owners and Admins manage these settings; giving a Member money visibility does not open this management area.
In Members, find the author, expand their rate history and add an hourly amount, currency and effective start date. A later start date preserves earlier rates for earlier work. The comparison table shows current and next scheduled rates.
In a project’s Costs section, add an author-specific project override. An applicable override takes priority over the workspace default. Its currency is fixed to the project’s currency, while a workspace rate lets you choose a currency.
Former members’ rates are read-only: they cannot be added or removed, but remain available for historical calculations. Support sessions cannot manage cost rates.
Dates, gaps and corrections
You cannot create two rates with the same effective date for the same author and scope. Add a new dated row when terms change. To correct a mistaken row, check its date and scope, remove it with confirmation, then add the correct rate. Removal recalculates historical internal costs, so review Profitability afterwards. Issued client invoices remain unchanged.
A zero rate means known zero cost. No applicable rate means incomplete information rather than free labor. Missing exchange rates can also make exact total cost and margin unavailable. Former or frozen members retain historical work; do not discard their history simply because their access ended.
Internal rates have no standalone paid feature gate. Enabling tracking, having permission and providing complete data are separate requirements. See Rates for client pricing and Currencies for conversion rules.
