Monthly hour limits

A monthly hour limit highlights a project's usage in a specific month.

A monthly hour limit highlights a project’s usage in a specific month. It is a soft boundary: exceeding it never blocks time entry, corrections, invoices or reports.

Set a limit

An Owner or Admin opens the project, selects the intended month and enters the hour limit. Check the month before saving. Limits do not automatically carry into later months; set another value for the next period.

Usage includes every project entry whose stored date falls in that month, whether or not it has a rate. The limit concerns the whole project rather than one selected author. It differs from a lifetime project budget and a private work plan.

Read the indicators

Usage below 90% is under the limit. From 90% through exactly 100% it is near the limit; above 100% it is over. For example, 114h 30m against 100h means 14h 30m over. Exactly 100h against 100h means At limit.

Indicators appear in weekly timesheet rows, monthly project tabs and totals, the project page, and Dashboard when the current month has limits. Invoicing can show a warning, but it does not prevent continuing.

The smart check has a separate configurable threshold, defaulting to 80%. Its attention card can therefore appear before a timesheet meter reaches the 90% near-limit state.

Access

Monthly limits require Pro or Business. The plan does not replace permission: Owners and Admins can view and manage limits. Members do not receive limit strips, budget blocks or team limits, even when they can see money. Their own time totals remain available. See Plans and Roles.
