Connect AI through MCP

Connect AI through MCP in Beyond.

MCP lets your own AI client work with permitted Beyond data. Beyond has no built-in assistant, stores no third-party model API keys and does not choose your model.

Connect a client

Open Settings → Integrations, copy the displayed server URL and follow your client’s instructions. Use the URL from your app rather than someone else’s example. For Codex:

Bash
codex mcp add beyond --url <URL-from-Beyond>
codex mcp login beyond

In the browser, review the application, workspace and requested permissions, then authorize it. Each grant is tied to the selected workspace. Read access is required; time and billing writes can be restricted. Authorize the appropriate workspace separately when needed.

What you can delegate

Read access supports finding permitted records, clients, projects, time, reports, current smart checks and authorized financial data. write:time permits logging, updating and deleting time and creating tags. write:billing is available to owners/admins and permits creating clients, projects, invoice drafts and managing monthly limits.

An AI client can prepare a draft, but cannot send, pay or void an invoice. Tools do not manage the team, personal security, backups or salary rates. Roles, money visibility, project assignments, invoice locks and read-only mode remain enforced as in the app. A Member cannot gain colleagues’ time or team billing through broader scopes.

Advanced token setup

For clients without browser OAuth, create a personal token: choose a name, workspace, scopes and 30, 90 or 365 days, then confirm your password. The secret appears only once. Store it securely and do not send it in conversation. You can have up to 20 active personal tokens.

Review and revoke

Integrations lists connected applications, tokens and your call activity: tool, outcome and time, without arguments or response contents. Revoke unnecessary connections individually. An ordinary password change does not revoke MCP. Losing an eligible plan stops tool calls without deleting connections; a frozen membership revokes its access. A subscription never expands your role.
